Wherever Rune Knights came from, Crocus, the seat of their power, quickly became a second home for them. It is from there that they would be dispatched, to there where they would report, and there where they made bunk in the barracks. It was also where they would patrol, a near constant task for the neophytes of the magical order. Aurelio was one such junior knight, and while his peers might have considered it boring, Aurelio approached the duty with gusto-- as was his attitude towards all his duties as a knight: to uphold them all with zeal. It was on such a patrol that Aurelio, perchance, stumbled upon a fight erupting in the middle of a street, two men at each other's hackles, trying to bash the life out of one another. Aurelio grimaced, his face unusually stern in the face of disruption in the streets, the image of authority, with him dressed in his Rune Knight regalia. . . or he would be, were the youth in his face not plain as the sun in sky. Aurelio stepped forward, ready to bring about an end to this mortal combat unfolding in front of him.
"Alright, men," he shouted, his voice bouncing off the streets, trying to elevate above the noise of the peanut gallery, "I don't want to have to drag anybody to the stocks or make anyone write an essay on why what they did is wrong, so break it up and I'll let you both be on your way!"
Aurelio looked about him. . . they were drawing quite the crowd, including one man who stood apart from the rest, just hovering in the doorway of a shop.

As it turned out, the man was already affiliated with a guild, the well-known adventuring group: Fairy Tail. Quite the illustrious guild these days, Aurelio noted, the sort that earned the recognition of the Magic Council as being upstanding members of the magical community, the sort of just individuals who were only second to the Rune Knights themselves.
But still, the man's good cheer continued and Aurelio could not help but feel that good spirit spreading even further into himself, the mood at the table light despite the disappointment. Even now, as the man confessed his intent, Aurelio still felt as sunny as a cloudless day. This newly revealed Siegfried-- and his Rune Knight comrade, Topaz-- had certainly made for an interesting start to his recruitment drive.
"Ah, Fairy Tail?" asked Aurelio, "You must have quite the litany of accomplishments as well! Model guilds like your own really only make our job better, when you get down to it, and do a lot to bolster our peaceful way of life here in Fiore."
But still, something teased at the back of Aurelio's mind: "So, mister Siegfried, are you in Crocus on business? Because I thought Fairy Tail were based out of Magnolia! Unless you came all this way just to tease us knights. . ."
Aurelio flashed a wide smile as he spoke, finishing his sentence with a laugh.

It was not long before Aurelio had managed to reed not one, but two different onlookers in to see him! The first was an older wizard who seemed the jovial sort-- well meaning and full of sunshine, not unlike Aurelio himself. The young Rune Knight gave him a broad smile as he approached, nodding enthusiastically as the man spoke his compliments. The young Rune Knight was indeed proud of the work he and others had done on the booth, so it made his heart light to hear an outsider speak well of it.
The second was, as it turned out, a fellow Rune Knight and, apparently, one who knew his adopted father, Argentus. A pretty girl, by any rights, and Aurelio blushed for a moment as she directed her question towards him.
"Ah, y-yes," said Aurelio, "Commander Argentus is my father. I'm Aurelio Blanc, nice to meet you, nice to meet you both, in fact!"
Aurelio stared at her face a moment longer. . . her bestial features seemed familiar. Perhaps he might have seen her around headquarters before? They were a numerous bunch, the Rune Knights, and it was near on impossible for a fresh recruit like Aurelio to have memorized every face. But he quickly turned his face back on the newcomer. A potential recruit? The young Slayer's heart was pounding in anticipation.
"And being a knight is very exciting, sir!" said Aurelio, his voice full of barely contained elation, smile wide from shining blue eye to eye, "You get to travel all over and protect people and really make a difference in the world! Why just the other day, I was in Akane and put a stop to some illegal magical trinket trade. . ."
The boy was rambling now, clearly enthused about his job, eager to impress the newcomer by regaling him with tales of the Rune Knights.

It was an early morning on the streets of Crocus, the sun just starting to peek over the tall buildings to shine its light on the cobbled paths below. But even in the shade of the early morning, Crocus was bustling, its many streets and roads filled to bursting with people, as was to be expected of the largest, grandest city in all of Fiore. People from all walks of life, be they mages or not, be they rich or poor, made these streets their home.
And Aurelio was no different, dressed in his official Rune Knight uniform, long blond hair drawn back into a pony tail, giving him the slightest look of authority that would be immediately undermined when one saw his youthful face, brimming with upbeat gaiety, up bring and early, beaming like the sun. His heart was light, despite the matter at hand being dull to anyone else but the young Rune Knight: Aurelio was put in charge of the day's recruitment drive. The Rune Knights were always looking to bolster their ranks, despite their already plentiful numbers, so it was not uncommon to see folding tables on the side of the streets, adorned with the banners of the Rune Knights, stacked with pamphlets advertising the exciting career of a Rune Knight, and always manned by a Rune Knight in proper uniform.
And that duty fell to Aurelio today. So sat the young Slayer, dressed all proper like, his hands folded in front of him, waiting with pamphlets in arm's reach, his smiling fice ready to greet anybody who approached, his eager eyes trained on any passerby that came close to the booth.

It was not long before something rose out of the dank and rank dimness of the swamp, fluttering towards him with nary a warning. Aurelio turned his gaze on the interloper, ready and eager for some kind of monster to be mounting an attack in the darkness, but nothing of the sort came. . . instead, it was just a flying, orange cat. Cute, but not particularly exciting. Was this his partner for the day? Any lingering doubts about that were cleared up when the orange cat, who introduced himself as Funkfreed with a flourish, and he explained the situation.
"Well," said Aurelio, "it's a pleasure to meet you, Funkfreed. I'm Aurelio Blanc, Rune Knight of the lowest order. . . but I'm working on that! As for your wayward partner: we had better go find him, huh?"
Aurelio set off down the way Funkfreed had just come from, lifting his finger up and conjuring a tiny bulb of light to act as a lamp and signal flare along the way, the glow cutting through the stink and miasma of the swamp like a tiny sun, chasing away the imagined creepy crawlies of the place, like bugs and rats fleeing a torch. Whether the actual creatures of the swamp would turn heel and take flight at the sight of a little white light remained to be seen, but at the very least, the soft glow of his finger lamp brought a little comfort to the party, providing a spotlight in these shadows. He turned back to face Funkfreed, a wide smile plain on his face.
"I'll take point," said Aurelio, his disposition cheery, despite the darkness of their environs, "we'll backtrack on your path until we either find this Orion or until trouble finds him and we subsequently find trouble."
With that, Aurelio strode down the path with gusto, his eyes peeled and constantly scanning the swampy background for signs of human life and his ears attuned with the sounds of the wild, listening for any signs of the telltale battle Orion was apparently wont to find himself in.

The Wailing Slough. . . a slimy swamp full of all sorts of nasty creepy crawlies and, as luck would have it, the home of the elusive Essence Herb, Aurelio's mark for this job he found himself on. While typically not the sort of work Aurelio would find himself doing as a Rune Knight, he was on leave for the next few days and the young Slayer was never one to stay idle for long. Even on his days off, he'd rather be training and working than relaxing. And today was no different. . . a simple job, on paper, but Aurelio knew that in the world of magic and monsters, nothing was ever truly that simple. If he got into a fight. . . all the better!
What's more is who is partner for today was: a man named Orion Glory. Aurelio had heard the rumors about him. . . a five time Rune Knight applicant with powerful magic, yet one who flunked out all five times! Not only that, he was making a name for himself in recent days for being rather. . . careless, yet effective, during jobs. Were they not here on business, Aurelio might like to fight the man for training purposes, but that could wait for another day!
So Aurelio waited at their designated meeting spot with the Slough, dressed in a simple collared shirt and black trousers, waiting for the man among the hissing and bubbling of the swamp around the, sounds of wildlife ringing off the waters and foliage of the swamp. The Slough was active tonight, and the sound of beasts within sent a mirthful shiver of anticipation down Aurelio's spine.

AURELIO BLANC OVERVIEW NAME: Aurelio Blanc ALIAS: N/A GENDER: Male AGE: Sixteen SPECIES: Human SEXUALITY: Heterosexual GUILD: Rune Knights GUILD MARK: N/A CLASS: D APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 5’10’’ WEIGHT: 157 lbs. EYE COLOR: Blue HAIR COLOR: Blond SKIN COLOR: Pale white BUILD: Lithe. ABNORMALITIES: Aurelio wears two earrings cut from aquamarines on both ears. FACE CLAIM NAME: Howl FACE CLAIM SERIES: Howl’s Moving Castle A young man with a boyish appearance, Aurelio is tall, lithe, and has blond hair that falls in a curtain around his hair, often obscuring his deep, blue eyes. Aurleio oft dresses simply, preferring the clothes of his rank and station when on duty, whilst preferring simple white, colored shirts and black trousers when not on the clock. Occasionally, he will spice up his wardrobe with the addition of various multicolor, almost peacock like cloaks. However, there is one constant regarding his appearance: the two aquamarine earrings that hang from either ear, adorning his youthful, typically smiling face. PERSONALITY POSITIVE TRAITS | NEGATIVE TRAITS | Well-Meaning | Naive | Affable | Self-righteous | Stalwart | Obstinate | Accepting | Gullible |
LIKES | DISLIKES | Reading | Idleness | Large Meals | Fish | Training | Rudeness | Working | Vehicles |
Aurelio is a pleasant young man and is very warm and affable with just about everyone, regardless of their appearance or origin. In conversation, one can count on Aurelio to be forthright and eager, one might even call him overeager and will find it difficult to get him to stop talking or to sway his opinions on matters. Aurelio finds it difficult to stop once he has set his mind on something, even if it might be better to put an end to things. Even when it might make things worse for him, Aurelio is dedicated to pursuing his own ideals, which are rooted in his ideas regarding justice. As such, he has a very black and white, almost childish view of morality. Aurelio’s morality is basic, though he is intensely dedicated to it. First and foremost, he believes hurting others for any reason other than acting in the defense of the innocent or a friendly spar is wrong. Second, he believes the law to be sacred and it must not be violated for any reason. His dedication to the rules and his own righteousness has caused some in the past to think of Aurelio as being somewhat abrasive or high strung at times. It also his belief that everybody has good in them, they just need to be given a chance to show it. HISTORY Aurelio never knew his true parents. In his early teenage years when he asked his adoptive father, Argentus Blanc, if there was any clue as to who Aurelio’s real parents were, the answer was indeterminate. Argentus had found the boy during his time as a Rune Knight, in the hideout of an upstart and fearsome Dark Guild that was planning the kidnapping of a prominent noble in Crocus. During the Rune Knights’ raid on the Dark Guild’s stronghold, Argentus discovered the boy in one of the backrooms, disheveled and malnourished, chained to a bed. In the aftermath of the raid, Aurelio-- who had no name yet-- was taken into the protective custody of the Rune Knights and examined by their medics, who discovered something very odd about the boy’s physiology: he had a rare, powerful lacrima implanted into his body, that of a Light Dragon. The gem would grant the boy powerful magic, but one question remained: why? This caused a great amount of debate among the Rune Knights. Why would the Dark Guild do this? For what purpose? And just who was this boy? No answer could be found among the rubble, so they eventually came to theorize that the boy may have been an orphaned kidnapped so that they might implant the lacrima in him and raise the child to be a powerful weapon for their guild. They theorized that a child was chosen so that they could be raised to be unquestioningly loyal to the Dark Guild’s cause. . . which gave some of them ideas. However, Argentus, who had some pull in the organization, would hear none of it. Argentus would take the boy as his own son and raise him himself. Argentus had never married or had children and was now getting on in years, so many expressed their concerns. Still, Argentus was resolved. He took the boy and named him Argentus and passed on the family name: Blanc. Aurelio was roughly three years old when this all happened, and he has been in Argentus’ care ever since. It was not a particularly easy upbringing, but it was a happy one. Argentus had never raised a child before, but he had trained Knights, so that is how he raised Aurelio, with plenty of training and structure, but also a lot of love. The young orphan was the son Argentus had always wanted, but never been able to have because of his dedication to his career. Argentus raised Aurelio to have a knight’s morals and to be able to control the fearsome magic within And that is how they lived, father and son, training every day until Aurelio was ready to join the Rune Knights. And on Aurelio’s sixteenth birthday, that day came. Aurelio became a Rune Knight, joining as a common soldier, and Argentus retired, having been a distinguished division commander. That brings Aurelio to today, a true Rune Knight and one who is eager to bring peace and justice to the land of Fiore. INVENTORY Include any items that your character has. Starting off, your character cannot have any magical weapons or armor UNLESS they are used for Holder or Reequip magic. They may have magical accessories as long as they do not provide any sort of battle advantage. Companions also go here. ITEM NAME: The name of the item RANK: The item’s rank (D, C, B, A, S, SS or X). Holder and Reequip items share the same rank as the magic they are used with. If an item is non-magical, then simply put N/A. DESCRIPTION: Describe what the item looks like and what it does. SPELLS: List the spells that the item has if any. Use the spell template as usual. Remember that Holder and Reequip items have no spells by themselves. MAGIC This is where you'll put all of your magic and spells. Characters may only start with one magic type. NAME: Light Dragon Slayer Magic TYPE: Lost DESCRIPTION: Light Dragon Slayer is a magic that allows Aurelio command of the element of light, as well as the ability to augment his body with aspects of light and draconic aspects as well. Because of the strength of his magic, Aurelio boasts great resistance to the effects of other light element magics and is able to ‘eat’ light magic as well as other sources of light in order to bolster his strength-- notably, however, natural sunlight is not an effective source of light for him to consume, as it would take several hours of actively consuming sunlight to even achieve the same results as eating a rather minor spell of light. DRAWBACKS: Overuse of his magic will cause Aurelio to unwillingly begin the process of dragonization, which is different from his typical means of taking on draconic aspects as it is a process that turns him into an actual dragon, and one that would theoretically turn him into a corrupted raging beast were it to go all the way through. In addition, because of the lacrima affecting his physiology, Aurelio suffers from motion sickness on vehicles due to a mismatch in his human eyes and some of the more draconic parts of his internal physiology. SPELLS:Place all spells related to your magic here. Characters get four free spells equal to their class at creation.
NAME: Sun Burst TYPE: Offensive RANK: D MODS: Affliction (Blindness) DESCRIPTION: Aurelio uses this spell to generate a small, but intense burst of white light. This light has an intense blinding effect on those caught in its glow, as it is much harsher than any light one might typically be exposed to and the sudden eruption of it is very disorienting. This spell has little direct damage capability due to most of the magical power going into intensifying the light, though perhaps if Aurelio were practically touching his target, they could suffer burns.
NAME: Blanc Bulwark TYPE: Defensive RANK: D MODS: Reflect DESCRIPTION: Aurelio is able to materialize a defensive barrier, creating it out of light magic. This white shield is roughly the size of a standard tower shield and is able to stop low level attacks reliably and is able to reflect part of their power back at the caster of the offending spell.
NAME: Dragon Claw TYPE: Offensive RANK: D MODS: Knockback DESCRIPTION: Aurelio channels pure light into either of his hands, concentrating power in his fingertips until he manifests long ‘claws’ of light, which are capable of delivering blows that will certainly send foes reeling if they connect in melee.
NAME: Light Speed TYPE: Support RANK: D MODS: Teleport DESCRIPTION: Light is an integral part of Aurelio’s physiology due to the lacrima implanted within him. As such, for a very brief moment of time, Aurelio is able to turn his entire body to light, allowing him to move so quickly it appears to be teleportation. Due to the ephemeral nature of light, he is able to work through and around obstructions easily. He is able to travel several meters instantaneously this way, granting him great mobility.

OOC Name: Tyler Slayer Position Desired: Light Dragon Slayer RP Sample: It had been a simple mission. It was not supposed to be simple. According to the Rune Knight’s intelligence network, there had been a Dark Mage, one who was possibly connected to a larger Dark Guild, selling black market magic items out of a back alley near Akane Beach. So, Aurelio, the fledgling Rune Knight, was dispatched with a much more experienced comrade to investigate the rumor and see if they could put a stop to the illegal trade, at least for a short time, if not forever.
Intelligence had been wrong.
The man in the alley had been a simple charlatan selling counterfeit, or even outright bogus, magic items, like glasses that would supposedly let one see through swimsuits. . . as it turns out, they did little more than everything a little bit blurrier. They had gone in the Rune Knight’s evidence lock-up, but Aurelio suspected they would find themselves in the trash before long.
To make matters worse, Aurelio and his partner had planned the coolest ambush. His partner was going to pose as an interested buyer whilst Aurelio was perched overhead on a building. When the ‘sale’ went down, Aurelio would jump down as a streak of light, materializing behind the dealer and keeping him in a bear hug whilst his partner held him at spellpoint. As it turned out, it was not needed-- the man was as dangerous as his merchandise was legitimate. After assessing the thread, his partner had simply bound the man with a low level spell and they carted him off to the nearest depot for processing, much to Aurelio’s chagrin. The young Knight had wanted action and a chance to apply his mysterious magic for good! But he had found nothing but disappointment and a sullen mood fell upon him, compounded by the illness brought on by the motion of the train they were taking back to Crocus.
“Hey,” said his partner, “you feeling alright, Aurelio? You seem a lot more down than usual. . .”
“It’s just the train. . .” said Aurelio, muttering beneath his breath, mood dulled by letdown and motion sickness.
“No,” said the Rune Knight, “you’ve been acting strange before we even got on the train. What’s wrong, kid?”
Aurelio sighed. “Well, it’s just that I was hoping for a little more action, you know? Something a bit more important than taking down a charlatan salesman.”
“Hey now,” said his companion, “all the good we do matters, no matter how small. We’re keeping a lot of people from getting ripped off and, not to mention, just because he was selling phony glasses today, doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be selling something more dangerous tomorrow.”
“I guess,” said Aurelio, “I just wanted to really show off, you know? I’ve been training so hard for this and my first real job ends up being a wash. . .”
“Aw, come on,” said the Knight, “you’ve got some wild magic there, bud. You’ve got the chance to do more good than most of us ever will. I’ll tell you one thing: not everything is going to be raids and the like. But you’re still doing good, even on days like this, you know?”
What the man said was true. . . Aurelio did love his job and being able to make a difference, even in small ways. He cracked a smile, despite the sickness churning his stomach.
“Yeah,” said Aurelio, “you’re right.”
The older Knight was right. Aurelio was doing good. It was as if fate had given him a gift with this magic and so long as Aurelio could keep doing even a little good, he was going to keep using the powers of a Slayer for justice.
