THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH The young mage snapped out of his reverie, it having been dispelled by the voice that seemed to be coming from his coffee cup. He had been so absorbed in his own thoughts that he had not noticed the initial splash; now that his gaze had been curiously directed in the coffee cup's direction, Asahi could notice the liquid and pixie dust on the table, surprised that none of it had touched his hand. Not that he was complaining, of course.
A small, humanoid figure reaching out of your coffee cup in the afternoon should have been enough to make one jump, but such things were within the realm of possibility here in Fairy Tail. It would be strange if there was not a sizable population of the species for which this guild was named after. It seemed like she had landed in his coffee by mistake, having been slapped a considerable distance by the rowdy bunch nearby.
Now that she had grown to a human size, he realized that her face was one that he vaguely recognized. They weren't close, but he had seen her around before - it was completely possible that they had joined the guild around the same time, but he couldn't confirm it. "My name is Asahi," he introduced himself also.
The cup of coffee didn't mean anything to him, and the only reason he did not let the bartender take the cup away was because he wanted to look as though he had a reason for sitting here. Having said that, it was not like him to refuse another's generosity. "I would appreciate another cup," he replied gently.
"I've actually seen you around before, Nana, but I think this might be the first time we've spoken to each other. It's a strange world, huh?" he let out a light chuckle.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH The Shadow God Slayer was a mainstay of the Fairy Tail guildhall when he was in town and this small lull between quests was no different. There were not that many places for him to go, and he had already grown tired of lounging around at home with nobody but himself for company. The younger, more boisterous members of the guild were wreaking havoc on the seating arrangements in the guildhall but Asahi hesitated to join them. It wasn't as though he was unwelcome, but he was one of those members who did not fit easily into this or that clique.
It was a natural consequence of always being out of town for quests, but even the guild's most proactive workhorses tended to work in teams. Either way, there was little point in lamenting his present situation. There were upsides to being a mainly solo operator as well, after all, and it was up to him to make the most of it. Asahi sat at the guildhall's bar, swirling his gradually cooling coffee and taking the occasional glance towards the jobs' board.
The thing he wanted most right now was a profitable quest. He had been taking it easily lately by accepting simpler jobs that allowed him the luxury of travel, so he contemplated a quest that would be more befitting of his skill. Maybe something that involved escorting a high level politician across a dangerous highroad, or exterminating a pesky gaggle of goblins? With the side of his head resting on his right fist, and his left hand still playing with the cup of coffee, Asahi daydreamed about the prospect of a glamorous quest.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH The Fairy Tail mage uttered some nonchalant words of thanks as he directed his attention back towards the vending machine; he selected his refreshment of choice but saw from the corner of his eye that the generous stranger was still standing there, and had begun to strike up a conversation. It would have been unseemly if Asahi did not reciprocate so he considered his reply carefully.
He was not a particularly picky eater and it was hard to recommend food to people whose tastes you weren't familiar with - dietary habits and all that - having said that, Belsam's cuisine really was famous throughout the country so there was probably something for everybody. "You should try as many dishes as you can. You can't go wrong at Super Express no matter what you order," he was speaking from experience as a veteran tourist.
Regular soaks in Belsam's hot spring was undoubtedly good for one's soul. The water, always at the most appropriate temperature for relaxation, did a great job of removing the tension from one's shoulders and massaging one's muscles. It wasn't a surprise that some people had attributed magical properties to it, but the Shadow God Slayer didn't think the water was actually magically enhanced in any way. It was all natural.
"The hot spring does its job, but it's not a substitute for medical treatment. Y'know?" he chuckled at the image of a severely wounded man entering the hot spring in lieu of going to the hospital. He was about to address the stranger, but paused when he realized that they hadn't even exchanged names.
"Ah, by the way, I'm Asahi," he introduced himself. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH He hadn't expected anyone to approach him, but it wasn't an unpleasant development. His eyes turned to the source of the voice, scrutinizing the stranger. It was a face that he didn't recognize, that didn't mean anything to him, but that was only to be expected. After all, the Shadow God Slayer was a local in Belsam, and judging by this other person's attire, staff draped across back especially, it could be wagered that he wasn't from this town either.
Without missing a beat, the Fairy Tail mage replied. "As a matter of fact, I am looking for something," it was in the most casual of voices. He had realized as soon as he put his hand into his pocket that he would not be able to find what he was looking for, so this was pretty good timing. "I wanted to get something from this machine, but I left my wallet back in my inn," he explained without a hint embarrassment.
"How about it? Mind spotting me a jewel for the machine?" he gestured towards the drink machine he was standing in front of. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH There was a certain charm about Belsam that Magnolia couldn't match; since he held a permanent residence in Magnolia but often looked for excuses to retreat to Belsam on the weekends, Asahi considered himself to be a reasonable authority on the subject. Magnolia had a certain character of its own, of course, and its status as one of the country's great cities meant that it was a melting pot of culture and attractions. But for a person like Asahi, who put a premium on his own privacy, it could be overbearing at times.
Having said that, it was the perfect location for Fairy Tail.
He could imagine his rollicking guild mates appearing at the snazziest bathhouse in town and unintentionally destroying it in the course of a sybaritic evening, but tried to put the thought out of his mind. He had come to this particular hot spring to relax, and the very fact that his mind had drifted to Fairy Tail meant that he had already been soaking for too long. The Shadow God Slayer stood up, gestured apologetically to the hot spring's other occupants for the abrupt movement and headed to the dressing room, where he changed into a traditional bathrobe.
It was somewhat humid, as was the case the past few nights, but he imagined a cool breeze would pick up soon. Still, Asahi felt thirsty after the soak and decided to cool down with a soft drink; he had seen a vending machine in the unisex waiting room and made that his next destination - the waiting room was as he recalled it: the paint on the wall was a muted light green, low cushion seating was located near the doors to the respective male and female changing rooms, and in the corner was a lonely vending machine.
He now stood in front of the vending machine, perusing his options before slipping a hand into the pocket of his robe and coming to a sudden realization. Oh shit. He had left his money pouch at the inn; suddenly, he became aware of his surroundings and began to scan the room, wondering if there was anyone around who would be willing to spot him a jewel or two for the machine.

ASAHI KANNAZUKI OVERVIEW NAME: Asahi Kannazuki ALIAS: Black Sun GENDER: Male AGE: 24 SPECIES: Human SEXUALITY: Heterosexual GUILD: Fairy Tail GUILD MARK: Right shoulder CLASS: B-class APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 187cm (6'2") WEIGHT: 80kg (177lb) EYE COLOR: Amber HAIR COLOR: Brown SKIN COLOR: Olive BUILD: Lean and muscular ABNORMALITIES: A diagonal scar across the chest FACE CLAIM NAME: Aizen Sousuke FACE CLAIM SERIES: Bleach Time spent training in the wilderness with the God Ringjax has left Asahi a lean and muscular man, although it would not be unfair to say that his appearance did a 180° turn after Ringjax's harsh training regime. His eyes, originally a soft shade of brown, had become a piercing amber, a wisdom beyond his years reflected in his daring gaze. Magically induced or otherwise, Asahi's body also grew exponentially during the regime, although this did not seem to be related to the training itself - almost as though just by being in Ringjax's presence, his form began to change, a process likely exacerbated by his use of Shadow God Slayer magic. PERSONALITY POSITIVE TRAITS | NEGATIVE TRAITS | Perceptive | Ruthless | Brave | Distant | Protective | Impulsive | Dependable | Self-indulgent |
LIKES | DISLIKES | Cold weather | Warm weather | Rain | Dark guilds | Nighttime | Deities | Poetry | Itchy skin |
As a bright-eyed youth growing up in his seaport community, Asahi was a soft spoken and gentle teenager. His maturity and charm made him a popular figure among the village's young and old, a man extolled for being one of the few cool-heads among a rambunctious lot. Since losing his friends, however, Asahi's personality has undergone a dramatic shift. Although he has retained his calm and collected nature, he has also become sharp tongued and distant; this is in stark contrast to his youth, when he was mild and approachable. It is clear that while personal tragedy and years spent training with a God has warped his personality, his attitude towards his guild and his loved ones has remained inherently constant. He is fiercely protective of anyone who bears the Fairy Tail symbol on their bodies, even if he does not know them personally as is often the case as he is often out of town on quests. With that said, he has become a peripheral figure in Fairy Tail as he rarely lounges around in the guildhall and is often slow to join in the guild's regular festivities. Although he has become something of a lone wolf, preferring to take quests by himself, that does not mean he does not feel at home in Fairy Tail. As one might guess, he tends to get on better with the guild's more mature members since they are generally able to empathize with his sense of loss, often having similar stories of their own. Strangely enough, although their temperaments often clashed, Asahi has inherited some character traits from the God who taught him God Slayer magic such as ruthlessness, an obscene form of recklessness and a disposition for evocative poetry. Overall, he is someone who is provably reliable but not often seen. HISTORY He didn't know where he was born, or to whom; the earliest memory he can recall is scooping shiners in the stream near the house where he and at least a dozen other children of various ages lived. This childhood home was not necessarily an orphanage, but had grown to provide a similar function to the community over the years - it was the home of a retired, elderly couple whose children had already left the village to pursue careers of their own, and because of that, there was ample space. Although he cannot remember for sure, Asahi was told that he was the third child to wander into the couple's home, and had only bothered to stay because they were particularly generous with their food. In other words, he led a blissful, uneventful childhood. As it turned out, the elderly couple were formerly mages of the Fairy Tail guild and often entertained their young charges with tales of the prominent guild's exploits. This meant, of course, that Asahi and his fellow orphans grew up wishing to emulate the luminaries of Fairy Tail's past and to become heroes that even Fiore's Royal Family would be indebted to. When the children were old enough, and at their great insistence, the couple agreed to teach them magic so that they could one day join the famous guild. Out of the eighteen children who were adamant that they would join Fairy Tail's ranks, only five, Asahi included, had shown the necessary discipline to keep up with the couple's gradually complicated lessons. The rest had been sucked into the labor force that the small village community depended on to survive - they became fishermen, farmhands and carers while the five newly minted mages, once they had reached sixteen years of age and with the village's blessing, ventured to Magnolia to seek out fame and fortune. Only Asahi made it to the guildhall, four years after the beginning of their journey. The group had been waylaid by dark mages en route to Oak Town and systematically eliminated. Although the green youngsters were talented students, and would surely have become powerful mages in the future, they were not a match for cutthroats to whom killing was second nature. In the blink of an eye, and in an encounter that resembled a culling more than a fight, dreams that had been cultivated for the past ten years were destroyed. While the dark mages looted the corpse of one of his dead friends (the one that didn't trust banks), Asahi managed to escape with his life intact. The reality of life outside his quaint village had disillusioned him, and suddenly, going to Magnolia to join Fairy Tail was no longer the priority. It had been a quirk of fate that he had not been killed; from that day, he decided that avenging his friends was his only purpose in life and to that end, he trained relentlessly. Eventually, he reached a point where he was confident that he had become stronger than any individual mage in the group that had attacked him prior, but knew that he would likely be overwhelmed in an unfair fight. That's when he heard about the God sighting in Bristle Cove, learned about Lost Magic in the local library, and decided to seek that great power. In order to reach the God's hiding place, Asahi had to defeat the guardians that protected him. It was this act, coupled with the young mage's strong will and resolve, that convinced the Shadow God to agree to teach him God Slayer magic. Armed with this newfound power, the Shadow God Slayer returned to his hometown to deliver the sad news before taking the same route that he and his friends had embarked on at the beginning of their journey. As predicted and as before, he was ambushed by familiar faces and a culling ensued; this time, of course, it was the dark mages who were on the receiving end. Still, he knew the souls of his dead friends were not at peace yet. Who could rest easy after having their lives ended prematurely, and in such a brutal manner? He decided to head for Fairy Tail, their initial destination, determined to accomplish their goals on their behalf. The rest of the journey to Magnolia was largely uneventful, and he managed to successfully join the guild - and it was here that he has remained for the past four years. INVENTORY ITEM NAME: Shuushi (秋思 lit. autumnal melancholy) RANK: N/A DESCRIPTION: The heirloom of a prominent family from outside of Fiore. It came into Asahi's possession after the completion of a quest. It is a moderate length katana blade with a hand guard depicting the falling of wisteria leaves. Its hamon pattern shows the movement of reposeful ripples, reminiscent of the ocean's gentle waves on a moonlit night. When not in use, it is kept in a lacquered, maroon-colored scabbard. SPELLS: N/A MAGIC NAME: Shadow God Slayer TYPE: Lost RANK: B DESCRIPTION: Shadow God Slayer is a type of Lost Magic that allows the caster to transform their physiology to that of a deity's and conjure the element of shadow from any part of his body for various purposes. He is capable of consuming natural or magical sources of his element in order to replenish himself in addition to having a heightened resistance against attacks of his element. DRAWBACKS: As utilizing God Slayer magic involves the sacrilegious process of reproducing a God's abilities (for the primary purpose of slaying Gods, no less), overuse of the magic will warp the caster's humanity. For example, overuse of the magic will fundamentally alter the caster's personality and appearance to the point that he becomes a more twisted version of himself. SPELLS:NAME: Ray of the Shadow God TYPE: Offensive RANK: B MODS: Affliction (blindness), Knockback, Damage Over Time DESCRIPTION: The caster points his palm at his target and unleashes a beam of shadow magic in that direction, roughly 3m in height and width. Upon impact, the target will be knocked back; residue of the shadow magic will remain on the target's body, afflicting them with temporary blindness and dealing damage over time.
NAME: Favor of the Shadow God TYPE: Support RANK: B MODS: Cleanse, Area of Effect DESCRIPTION: Shadow magic transverses through the caster's body up to the tips of his fingers before being released, cleansing the caster and those in his immediate vicinity of afflictions as outlined in the magic guidelines.
NAME: Breakwater of the Shadow God TYPE: Defensive RANK: B MODS: Barrier, Reflect DESCRIPTION: Shadow magic transverses through the caster's body up to the tip of his fingers; in one swift motion, the caster gestures with his hand in a vertical followed by horizontal arc, creating a barrier 3 meters in height and width that will protect him and reflect the offending spell, as outlined in the magic guidelines.
NAME: Deluge of the Shadow God TYPE: Offensive RANK: B MODS: Knockback, Damage Over Time, Area of Effect DESCRIPTION: Shadow magic transverses through the caster's body up to the tip of his fingers before being released to form a small sphere in the caster's palm. The sphere is roughly 9 inches in circumference and 3 inches in diameter. Upon being generated, the sphere will immediately explode, knocking back and dealing damage over time to anyone in the caster's vicinity as outlined in the magic guidelines. PLAYED BY MORI

OOC Name: Mori Slayer Position Desired: Shadow God Slayer RP Sample: "It's been a while since I've met someone with eyes like yours."
It was a frank and unhesitating admission. Normally, he would be gratified to receive such praise from a creature extolled as being divine and without peer, but the claws wrapped around his throat ensured that he felt nothing but the discomfort of imminent suffocation. He mustered up what strength he could and tried to raise his arm; this action, which took no more than a few seconds to perform, felt like an eternity to the young mage as his consciousness slowly began to drift. He managed to grab hold of the other's arm, and noted that the being's skin was cold to the touch. There was something ironic about a God being so repulsive, not in appearance, but in nature - in the stories, they always emanated warmth; true, they were often said to be irascible when faced with impudence from what they could only perceive as lesser beings, but they could also be immensely generous, capable of bestowing the greatest of gifts.
Then Asahi remembered. He had come here in search of such a gift, and had no intention of dying. Suddenly, he felt stronger, the grip on his throat felt looser and he could wrap both of his hands around the God's arm. He tried to pry him off, but it was a futile attempt. The God noticed this, threw back his head in a reverberating guffaw and flung Asahi away with inhuman strength. "What's your name, child of man?" he rasped. Of course, he did not receive an immediate reply as Asahi was busy coughing and spluttering, still unable to formulate a proper sentence. In this regard, the God demonstrated holy restraint, waiting patiently for the young mage to gather his bearings and give him an answer. Eventually, it came and the God mulled over it thoughtfully
"I'll remember that. As a courtesy, I'll tell you mine. I am Ringjax, Lord of Phantasms and King of Spectres!" the way he announced his titles seemed like overkill to Asahi, but the young mage tolerated it. He knew that his life was in Ringjax's corpse-like hands. If he continued to fight, he would be killed. If he ran, and somehow managed to escape, he felt as though he would never be able to come back here. Either way, his life was forfeit.
Ringjax considered his words carefully. "Why did you come here? You woke me up from a deep, deep sleep. Out of respect for your formidable will, I did not kill you immediately but... the more we talk, the angrier I get at having been woken up...." he began to trail off, the bemused expression on his beautiful face was reminiscent of a human who just realized he had been trying to hold a conversation with a fruit fly.
Asahi dropped to his knees, and explained himself quickly. "All of my friends were wiped out. Because I was weak, I couldn't protect my friends or my ambitions. That's why I've come here!" he shouted it in as loud a voice as he could manage.
"I cannot bring your friends back to life, child of man. My condolences. Take refuge in the knowledge that you will be seeing them soon," the thinly veiled threat suggested that Ringjax was done with this charade. He wanted to go back to sleep. He began to step forward, uttering arcane incantations that manipulated the shadows around his cave; it would give him the power to kill Asahi as quickly and as painlessly as possible. It wasn't as though he harbored any ill-will towards the young mage in particular but since he knew the location of this hiding place, it was dangerous to let him live.
Asahi realized immediately that he had been misunderstood. "My friends are in a place where nobody can ever hurt them again. I've already accepted that they're g-gone. But as long as I'm a-a-alive, I still have my a-ambition. I came here for your p-power. So I don't have to lose anyone again, so I can protect my ambition!" he managed to articulate his wishes surprisingly well considering the damage he had just sustained to his larynx. It was enough to stop Ringjax in his tracks, enough to arouse the Lord of Phantasms' curiosity.
"A child of man has an ambition worthy of my power? Do tell," the inkling of sympathy that had been present in his voice before had completely disappeared. Clearly, he had felt affronted by Asahi's haughty declaration. "The world's strongest mage," was the labored reply he received.
For a mere second, Ringjax was dumbfounded. "You really are a child of man," he spat venomously as he continued his strides over to the mage's battered body. "Yes, with a lofty ambition like that, you would surely need my gifts," he continued, a tinge of regret in his voice that he had bothered to fling the young mage such a great distance. There was a part of him that hoped he would just turn tail and run, but in retrospect, he was just creating more work for himself. "But I'm afraid your arms are far too short to grasp that title," he raised his foot and kicked Asahi, propelling him until he was at the mouth of the cave.
"You slithered your way past my minions and into my lair just so you could beg for my power? If a snake like you became the world's strongest, there would be no need for me to hide out in places like this!" he sauntered over to where Asahi's body lay, half of it covered in the shadow of the cave and half of it illuminated by the sunlight outside. The young mage had not replied to Ringjax's disparaging comments, so he had just assumed that he had already lost consciousness. But the mage's hand was raised, an index finger pointing to the general direction of the cave's entrance; with considerable effort, his lips began to move and his voice came out as a weak whisper.
"Didn't sneak in. Look." was all he could manage before blacking out.
The God looked at the entrance to the lair and saw the bodies of his minions littered about. They were far weaker than him, even put together and then multiplied exponentially, but they should have been more than enough to overwhelm an inquisitive human. Ringjax's drowsiness had been completely dispelled at this point, and the light of day meant that he could see Asahi's figure properly for the first time. The marks around his neck that Ringjax had inflicted were apparent, but there were other wounds too. He was barefoot, his clothes were tattered and a deep gash adorned his abdomen. The foul expression on his face had subsided. Wordlessly, and with uncharacteristic gentleness, Ringjax grabbed the young mage's collar and dragged him slowly back into the confines of the lair.
