Time spent training in the wilderness with the God Ringjax has left Asahi a lean and muscular man, although it would not be unfair to say that his appearance did a 180° turn after Ringjax's harsh training regime. His eyes, originally a soft shade of brown, had become a piercing amber, a wisdom beyond his years reflected in his daring gaze. Magically induced or otherwise, Asahi's body also grew exponentially during the regime, although this did not seem to be related to the training itself - almost as though just by being in Ringjax's presence, his form began to change, a process likely exacerbated by his use of Shadow God Slayer magic.

As a bright-eyed youth growing up in his seaport community, Asahi was a soft spoken and gentle teenager. His maturity and charm made him a popular figure among the village's young and old, a man extolled for being one of the few cool-heads among a rambunctious lot. Since losing his friends, however, Asahi's personality has undergone a dramatic shift. Although he has retained his calm and collected nature, he has also become sharp tongued and distant; this is in stark contrast to his youth, when he was mild and approachable.
It is clear that while personal tragedy and years spent training with a God has warped his personality, his attitude towards his guild and his loved ones has remained inherently constant. He is fiercely protective of anyone who bears the Fairy Tail symbol on their bodies, even if he does not know them personally as is often the case as he is often out of town on quests. With that said, he has become a peripheral figure in Fairy Tail as he rarely lounges around in the guildhall and is often slow to join in the guild's regular festivities.
Although he has become something of a lone wolf, preferring to take quests by himself, that does not mean he does not feel at home in Fairy Tail. As one might guess, he tends to get on better with the guild's more mature members since they are generally able to empathize with his sense of loss, often having similar stories of their own. Strangely enough, although their temperaments often clashed, Asahi has inherited some character traits from the God who taught him God Slayer magic such as ruthlessness, an obscene form of recklessness and a disposition for evocative poetry.
Overall, he is someone who is provably reliable but not often seen.
HISTORY
He didn't know where he was born, or to whom; the earliest memory he can recall is scooping shiners in the stream near the house where he and at least a dozen other children of various ages lived. This childhood home was not necessarily an orphanage, but had grown to provide a similar function to the community over the years - it was the home of a retired, elderly couple whose children had already left the village to pursue careers of their own, and because of that, there was ample space. Although he cannot remember for sure, Asahi was told that he was the third child to wander into the couple's home, and had only bothered to stay because they were particularly generous with their food.
In other words, he led a blissful, uneventful childhood. As it turned out, the elderly couple were formerly mages of the Fairy Tail guild and often entertained their young charges with tales of the prominent guild's exploits. This meant, of course, that Asahi and his fellow orphans grew up wishing to emulate the luminaries of Fairy Tail's past and to become heroes that even Fiore's Royal Family would be indebted to. When the children were old enough, and at their great insistence, the couple agreed to teach them magic so that they could one day join the famous guild.
Out of the eighteen children who were adamant that they would join Fairy Tail's ranks, only five, Asahi included, had shown the necessary discipline to keep up with the couple's gradually complicated lessons. The rest had been sucked into the labor force that the small village community depended on to survive - they became fishermen, farmhands and carers while the five newly minted mages, once they had reached sixteen years of age and with the village's blessing, ventured to Magnolia to seek out fame and fortune.
Only Asahi made it to the guildhall, four years after the beginning of their journey.
The group had been waylaid by dark mages en route to Oak Town and systematically eliminated. Although the green youngsters were talented students, and would surely have become powerful mages in the future, they were not a match for cutthroats to whom killing was second nature. In the blink of an eye, and in an encounter that resembled a culling more than a fight, dreams that had been cultivated for the past ten years were destroyed. While the dark mages looted the corpse of one of his dead friends (the one that didn't trust banks), Asahi managed to escape with his life intact.
The reality of life outside his quaint village had disillusioned him, and suddenly, going to Magnolia to join Fairy Tail was no longer the priority. It had been a quirk of fate that he had not been killed; from that day, he decided that avenging his friends was his only purpose in life and to that end, he trained relentlessly. Eventually, he reached a point where he was confident that he had become stronger than any individual mage in the group that had attacked him prior, but knew that he would likely be overwhelmed in an unfair fight.
That's when he heard about the God sighting in Bristle Cove, learned about Lost Magic in the local library, and decided to seek that great power.
In order to reach the God's hiding place, Asahi had to defeat the guardians that protected him. It was this act, coupled with the young mage's strong will and resolve, that convinced the Shadow God to agree to teach him God Slayer magic. Armed with this newfound power, the Shadow God Slayer returned to his hometown to deliver the sad news before taking the same route that he and his friends had embarked on at the beginning of their journey. As predicted and as before, he was ambushed by familiar faces and a culling ensued; this time, of course, it was the dark mages who were on the receiving end.
Still, he knew the souls of his dead friends were not at peace yet. Who could rest easy after having their lives ended prematurely, and in such a brutal manner? He decided to head for Fairy Tail, their initial destination, determined to accomplish their goals on their behalf. The rest of the journey to Magnolia was largely uneventful, and he managed to successfully join the guild - and it was here that he has remained for the past four years.
