Hey there... just a few suggestions that I think are pretty simple fixes and should help both staff and members of the site in one way or another ^_^ - Have a minimum word count for areas on the application. I know after talking in DMs from Noth that I needed to add more to my personality and appearance though when I looked at other apps they had similar amounts. So, I think having a clear # on what is what would help new people know what is expected and staff to not have to waste their time telling members to beef up certain areas.
- I think adding something as simple as (L) and (B) for Limited and Banned magic would be helpful. As it stands it really isn't clear and again this would help new members know what is what and staff to save their time on things. I myself spent like an hour+ making magic and character only to be told its a no go.
- The positive and negative things on the app should just be deleted and made into a much easier manner to follow. Having the two weaved together in that code is going to confuse some newer people to RP forums. I've been doing them for years and I had to keep seeing if I was placing them in the right spot. Plus one simple delete on a single bracket can make the whole thing break.
- I think moving your thread that you have staff approve things out of the rules area would be best. It really doesn't make sense to be there as it is neither a rule or information as the category implies. I think keeping it with the character apps or in that general area would make more sense overall.
- The character app has language that its supposed to link to the guilds page for you to select, it does not. Not a huge deal but is misleading and since the guilds are in an area beneath the rules/lore/and even character creation it might not be the easiest to find right off the bat for new members. This is even more confusing when you consider that Rune Knights info is in the rule section. If anything maybe make an sub area in the rules for the guilds/other orgs? Just a thought on the matter.
- I think you need to break apart the Affliction mod. After talking with Noth it seems that it can be super abused by constantly spamming blinds and such. If anything make it where said person is immune to afflictions of the same nature for like 2 posts because that's gonna be really annoying for most people. Also, having a blind affliction for 3 posts unless cleansed seems super OP and unfair. I think stuff like blinds and Immobilization should last 1 posts on average maybe gaining 1 or 2 additional posts the stronger the spell is. If anything maybe SS and X spells can cause a 3 post lasting on that.
- Passives, what are they are they a spell or are they just something always there? Really not well explained. Are they passives to spells or passives to the magic overall? If they are passives to the magic overall they should have an area in the character app going over your passives. At the moment I assume passives are like Dragon Slayer's keen senses and such. If they're passives to spells then they aren't really passive are they since they require to be activated.
- Magic AMP is pretty OP. I think that it shouldn't be able to be spammed like it can currently.
- Physical Damage mod...does it even need to exist? You don't have a defense mod per say but it seems that without the Physical damage or elemental damage you can't deal damage. So...yea seems pointless to have in my honest opinion. I would say offensive spells by default should have this mod automatically attached. Having an elemental mod to add multiple elements into a single spell is a good idea but again, I don't think its needed by default. If I'm a fire mage then I'm forced to get the fire elemental mod each time? Also, some elements naturally would auto cause that type of physical damage. Seems pointless to have that mod unless you are trying to use 2+ elements in a single spell.
- I think the Perks for support/defense should have more than 2 since this encompasses 2 types of spells it would only make sense to have at least 4 perks? I think maybe allowing debuffs to take less slots and something else that is less 'positive' would be best. Supporters aren't only healers they also aid in buffing and debuffing so giving some sort of perks towards these I think would be more appealing than just the defense and healing aspect.
- Right under the support info it seems to just regurgitate what was already stated above but really doesn't make it clear that its doing that. Its just a bit odd. Give that a label or something as a person just reading the rules could easily think this belongs to the support info when it does not. At least I don't believe it does, if it does then the wording needs to drastically change on that.
Again these are just some thoughts that I've had while being on the site for the past few days. Not meant to bash or belittle staff and their efforts, just hoping that they can be improved upon. |

1. It's something we'll consider. Although it isn't necessarily word count as much as what is actually is in it, if that makes any sense. You can type a long essay and have no substance to it. Although generally appearance should be 1-2 paragraphs and personality should be at least 2 paragraphs. History should just be as detailed as possible. I could look at all the profiles and come up with an average, but in general you should strive to make it as colorful as possible.
2, 4, 5. Some of the stuff you bring up can be generalized, so I'm addressing them all here. This site is very new and just came into existence. As such, stuff is still being organized. 2 is something that I'm just going to take care of tonight. 4 and 5 may or may not happen. It depends on what we decide is best for organizational purposes.
3. No one has been confused by it and you don't have to do it in code. You can always just switch to preview mode and type in things in their respective column. It's more simple than you're making it out to be.
7. Passives are just anything that aren't involved in combat.
8. Magic AMP isn't as strong as you think. It only affects magical items, which aren't even the most important things in combat anyway. It doesn't effect Requip or Holder magic, in case you were wondering. Only items in your inventory.
Everything else I see you have a bunch of concerns over the combat, so I'm going to alleviate all of your worries here. First of all, keep in mind that changes can happen at any time if deemed necessary. Likewise, more spells will be added as time goes on. We haven't had one official battle IC yet, so just making changes right now could break something that was already fine. Also in general you're overcomplicating things in your head. This site runs on a free flowing combat system based on goodwill. If someone tries to spam things then it will be dealt with.
I appreciate your concerns, but this site is still under construction, and we are aware of most of the concerns you brought up. I do agree that the limited and banned magic needs to be made clearer, and wording in general needs to be edited. Some organization needs to be done too. But the combat system is a free flowing system that can change at any time. It's undoubtedly going to be bumpy at first, but things will sort itself out.

1) That's understandable, still, it should be clear as right now its like just put this here with no explanation whatsoever other than "here is your description, you can place an image too" and isn't a picture worth a 1,000 words or some nonsense like that? Why do you need more information if there is a picture other than a brief blurb maybe. I don't understand why you would need to focus on this aspect but then have your combat be more free-form. Seems like those two thoughts contradict each other a bit.

3) Proboards preview mode should never be used...like ever unless you really want to fuck up code. Been using PB for nearly 5+ years and the preview mode with code is a jesus take the wheel moment if there ever was one. I'm just saying having them being ababababab is not very easy for new people when it could be super simple as list As here and Bs here. Also again, this being more of a concern for new people who might not know proboards or coding well let alone an online RP site, they might not know they can go their own path when it comes to changing things. Some sites are nazis when it comes to how their apps are and you could get in more trouble trying to make it your own flow than anything.
4/5) Cool, still think if you're going to say CLICK HERE in the app for the guilds it should link to that page.
7) Okay, well passives are still super vague my point is they need to be clearer. Like is it the Dragon Slayer's advanced smell or is it more akin to I'm good at reading quick? If its the latter just delete it entirely as it serves no point other than to confuse.
8) At no point does magic AMP say this does not target holder magic or re-equip while both these have language in their description about how they are the use of magical items. This should be more clear.
I get the point of goodwill and such but having some basic mechanics in place is going to stop staff from having to fight with players down the road. I don't think its asking much that certain things like blinds and whatnot are more limited or have some sort of loopholes other than cleanse.

1) I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a contradiction. Because sometimes there are certain elements to the appearance that differ from the FC they show (like general clothing taste). So sometimes a picture isn't enough.
3): First off, if you don't save your progress on a doc you are asking for trouble in general. That's the only time where any of this becomes remotely a issue. If enough people bring it up as an issue then it will be address. But we have had quite a few applicants and it hasn't caused any problems. Even people who aren't super familiar with proboards haven't been turned off by it.
4/5: that goes without saying. If a link isn't working then it's an oversight that was made in all the recent changes, and will be dealt with accordingly.
7: Another way you can word passives are flavor. You know, things you can add that make sense IC but don't affect things mechanically. I don't see anyone really being confused by this.
8: That was something I myself inquired into at one point. And I would have edited it before you came to the site if I was on staff at the time. It's one of the things I'm going to have to reword when I go and make the limited and banned magic more clear.
I'll bring up the blind length and adding in more defensive specific stuff. Since there should be more benefits to picking that specialization. But stopping fights from ever happening is impossible. I have been RPing for over a decade now, and have been a staff member on all but two sites I've RPed on. No matter how airtight your mechanics seemingly are, there are always people who manage to find some type of loophole and try and abuse the system. So rather than frustrating people with mechanics, it's best to rely on goodwill and a honor system for most RPing. And people who take advantage of that will be dealt with, as I said before.
I appreciate your opinions on this. If you would like to do more, perhaps you can submit an application to become a staff member. We're likely going to be needing new members in the future with how busy things have become for some members. Otherwise, just trust in the staff to do our best.
