It was a moonless night, the many clouds deprived my eyes from catching even a glimpse it's beautiful sight, when I was younger, I had always loved to stare at it, for some reason it calmed me even when my mind wandered to dark places. "Open the gates! The hunter has arrived!" said the guard on top of a wooden tower behind a thick wooden wall five time the size of a normal human being. I wore nothing more than normal looking clothes; I did not need any extra protection after all. Sadly enough, these were clothes that I had bought earlier this morning and now they were completely ruined and bloodied, my face covered in it as well with the occasional drip that fell from my blonde hair. My right hand was holding some sort of mutated dire wolf by its snapped neck. The carcass dragging through the ground leaving a rather visible trail.
Once the doors opened, they revealed a stone paved street, a rather dirty one at that, with four guards to welcome me - two on each side and all of them wearing the city's emblem onto their metal armor with swords on their hips. They could not see from all the way up the tower in what kind conditions i was in, the darkness had shielded their faces from morphing into ones overwhelmed with disgust - at least up until now - that was the sort of job I was in , monster hunting paid well but i would not call it the cleanest of jobs.
"Why are you helping them...they only see you as a tool..." said the voice.
"Yes...Hunt the humans...hunt them all..." said the voice.
Howling coming from the forest filled the air with fear and terror and since the gates were wide open it revealed a path towards a bountiful meal. Three black furry and rather large dire wolves dashed out of the forest at full speed - towards the entrance, passing right next to me but completely ignoring me. At that precise moment, time seemed to slow down considerably my mind felt completely blank. Cold dead eyes looked at the guards unsheathing their swords, for some reason all sounds were muffled but I could clearly tell they were afraid, asking for my help as they formed a rudimental line acting as the only live barrier between the monsters and the villagers.
In that moment i wanted to watch as the monsters devoured them all - I wanted to savor their deaths like a kid does with ice cream, eating it slow to make it last - "PLEASE! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HELP US! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS...!" said one of the guards, but a voice much louder filled my head and tried its best to control me "Good? You are not good, watch them die! Fill your heart and soul with their screams of despair! Let me take over...let me free..."
As one of the wolves was about to maul down one of the guards that had not managed to stand his ground and deflect the rush attack I snapped back to reality. "For how long was I asleep...?" I muttered while trying to understand where I was and what was happening. The moment I realized people were being attacked I jumped forward while the ground below me cracked leaving my footprints forever etched into it. My right fist started to shine with at first a faint yet visible light that covered its entirety making it look as if light was being shone upon very polished armor. Some sort of gauntlet appeared made out of scales that felt like mercury rather than actual steel. I punched onto the wolf's side pushing it away with so much force that it propelled the monster against the wall, this would turn the guard's role upside down, from victim to assailant - allowing him to kill the wolf with his sword.
Since i was facing the wolf that had just died, my back was turned away from the two still alive, and it was in that moment they decided to use this chance to take out what they had considered to be an easy prey...big mistake. As the two jumped onto my back I stood still, their teeth biting down onto my shoulders, their whole weight pushing on me - how silly. After biting down a couple of times they quickly realized that biting me felt like trying to bite onto a stone wall, their teeth grinding on a surface too dense to be pierced. Even though their muscled tried their best to push me down, stretching and contracting rapidly, strenuously - they simply could not move me, and as they pulled back it would reveal the entirety of my skin for the few remaining pieces of clothes had been completely ripped out.
With the moon now completely freed, it revealed me for who I truly was - not a simple hunter - but the armor devil-slayer. But at the same time, it revealed just how weak I truly was. The guards rejoiced that they were still alive and they had managed to kill the beasts while I felt an incredible sadness well up inside of me. I was not strong enough to contain the darkness inside of me...not yet...

While a cool breeze hit me from behind sweeping off the bad odor from me and towards the guards, it also moved the clouds finally setting the moon free from their grasp - shining upon me and my furry victim. As it hit me it, the skin that was being shown through the ruined clothes as well as my hands would shine far too much for it to be just skin - while to me it looked perfectly normal, to the guard's eyes it must've felt like armor scales were covering me mixed in together to form some sort of natural armor. "My name is Gwyn and I came to collect my reward for killing this." I said with authority as I threw the dire wolf's carcass at the guard's feet with ease.
However, after one of them had tried to lift it up he immediately realized that my strength was not something normal. In fact, it would take all them to lift the monster up and the mere sight of their weakness made me giggle a little. "Are ...are you sure you got rid of them all?" said one of the guards as they tried their best to move the carcass away from the entrance as quickly as possible. "No, not yet" I said as my smile widened turning into something vicious and evil - after all in order to do that I needed more live bait.
"Yes...Hunt the humans...hunt them all..." said the voice.
