Darwin is slender and what most would say is a kind-looking man. His facial expression is typically on the softer, more gentle side. His lips are usually poised with a small smile while his eyes seem to always make contact with you when you speak. He walks in a way that seems almost as if he is on his way to stroll a Sunday market; without much haste or drive. His attire is normally well coordinated, not one to ever be too dull to go unnoticed. His wardrobe is filled with clothes that fit his body well and seem to make his amber color eyes pop. He is not obnoxious with his choices, just conscious.
Darwin is almost always seen with his notepad that he uses to take notes or write some of his runes. He has a nasty habit of writing an immobilizing rune on it and handing it to a stranger or fellow guildmate just to see them lock up in place. Other than this notebook, Darwin really does not have any other personal items that he tends to carry with him frequently. Even a pen is not needed thanks to him being able to simply use his finger to produce the writing needed for him magic to work.

Darwin views himself as a very ambivalent man for the most part. He knows that the best way to get through life is to follow the status quo, even if that is not what he personally aligns himself with. His morals often contradict the ethics of the society around him but he’s keen on this and makes adjustments so that he can blend in with the world in a less resistant manner.
His goals are often to collect things. Books, money, knowledge, all things on the table for him. While he is not out of his way to get these things, he does know that it is more often than not easier to manipulate another to get them for him. Because of this Darwin has many friends and close relationships with those outside his Guild. Even a few in the other Mages guilds out there. Most of this is a facade as Darwin’s real nature only presents itself when something he wants is blocked by another. Then his true nature emerges. A cold, calculating man that has no remorse for his actions.
Darwin does have a sense of humor. Often, the man will place his runes throughout the city or guildhall, just waiting for somebody to set them off. That or he will blatantly had a person a piece of paper with the runes. He does this mainly to get a laugh or two before going about his day, never seeming to actually apologize. This has given him somewhat of a reputation within the guild but few in the town actually know who is doing such acts. This does show a bit more laidback side of Darwin.
HISTORY
Darwin’s first memories of life were in a small orphanage in the small village outside of Onibus town. It was a simple orphanage, ran by a local religious sect. There were a dozen or so kids from all different ages that stayed there and overall it was a peaceful childhood. Darwin always seemed too smart for his own good, even at a young age. He would often get the other kids to do his chores or somehow giving him their extra portions of meals. How he did it was by simple charm alone. He was always walking around with a big smile and what appeared to be a kind heart. Often helping the adults with simple tasks without being asked, only for them to start to believe that this was because of his pure soul when in reality it was just due to him not wanting them to realize that he was slacking on the more important tasks.
It was when he was around nine years old that the boy started to show signs of magical power. The limited library the church offered was consumed by his hunger within a year. Being a boy with big ambitions and high charisma, Darwin was under the impression that nothing could stop him if he truly put his mind to the task. Soon he would go into town and frequently visit the larger libraries there. Still, no magic stood out to him. Nothing seemed to stick with the boy. The books piled up and his knowledge of the world grew and grew. He was about thirteen years old when he realized that the best source for magical knowledge would be with the local guild, Raven Tail.
Upon entering the guild for the first time the boy was met with laughs and was quickly brushed aside. A child showing the gift for magic was not enough to warrant a place within the guild. Especially one such as Raven Tail. While the guild appeared to be a model guild on the outside, rumors always did stir about its true nature. After a few tries to get the members to accept him, Darwin decided he would take matters into his own hands.
One evening the boy broke into the guild through a small sewage drain that was located in the basement. Being careful not to be spotted, Darwin made his way to their library and pilfer a book or two that he thought looked interesting. He would not keep the books but always return them the next day, after he had spent all night studying their texts. Still, these books were too simple and boring for him. It was nearly a year after he started these heists did he get caught. It was like any other night and the boy was returning the books from the previous day and inspecting his next targets. Suddenly the boy could not move. He was bound by some sort of magic spell and the Guild Master emerged from a shadowy corner.
After spending time talking for a few hours the Master decided that he would take in Darwin and give him the gift of knowledge. He was given a book on the ancient and nearly lost magic of Dark Écriture. Unlike the other books, this one seemed to fit like a glove. He read that text at least half a dozen times. Trying to memorize every single word on its pages. Over the next decade or so, Darwin would study the lost art as well as seeking those that could pique his interest enough to learn their magic.
While working in Raven’s Tail, Darwin quickly learned how to use his powers to the fullest. The Master made him feel seen, really seen, for the first time and because of that he dedicated his time to learning the magic that he was presented with. While he worked for the guild in several legal missions, he was also an excellent tool when it came to the under the table ventures. His runes would help keep unwanted eyes at bay and make sure that if they were double crossed that the guild could easily located and handle any situation. While he has not had any direct issues with the Magic Council and the Rune Knights, he has had several people he would considered friends, locked away at one point in time or another. This has led him to distrust the Council or their hounds the Rune Knights.

DESCRIPTION:
It is a form of Letter Magic that allows the caster to write runes with various tools, even fingers and weapons, for various types of effects. Essentially, the spells used for this Magic work only on what the caster writes with it; in other words, what they write goes as follows, making it a sort of "rule" in using Dark Écriture.
The runes can be written for different purposes, such as traps, and offensively can be cast upon an opponent to inflict either physical or mental injury. The caster can also conjure an element for the usage of this Magic, like poison or lightning. However, simple usage of this Magic that is convenient for the user, such as teleportation or flight, can also be used. Another type of spell is actual transformation, in which the caster is able to transform themselves and be granted a different appearance, even strength. Overall the magic is highly versatile but is limited in its use and thrives in setting up rather than frontal attacks.
DRAWBACKS:
The runes have to be applied to the space that they are targeting. If a person is keen enough, they may be able to easily bypass these traps. The runes also are open to be rewritten by other forms of letter magic, this leads to the potential of their effects drastically changing from their true intended purpose.

DESCRIPTION:
Darwin can either place this on a surface or directly apply it to a target. If placed on a surface, once a person steps on the rune they will undergo this effect. If placed directly on a target it will automatically start.
Those that are subjected to the rune will find themselves frozen in place and undergo temporary blindness. Not only this, but magic items will cease to function properly if their owner is under the influence of this rune.

DESCRIPTION:
By placing a rune on a location, Darwin is able to instantly teleport to this location at whim. Once placed the marker will remain until destroyed. He can send others to this marker as well if he is able to touch them.

Once written, the area around Darwin will be filled with his runes. This will place the rule on everybody within. Those within this space will already feel their magic power-draining as well as notice that their magic items cease to work.

DESCRIPTION:
By placing the rune on an object or person. After the rune is placed, it can be ignited whenever Darwin desires to cause an explosion to that marked area. The explosion is a powerful force that can cause a major damage to the bones of those it is placed on as well as 2nd degree burns, and a knockback if applicable and potentially stagger the enemy. If multiple of these runes are placed, at max only three can explode in a given post. Only one rune may be placed per post.
