To say that Vallis sucked at magic was a massive understatement.
He was not to blame though. After going his entire twenty-six years of life without any magical experience, he could not be expected to learn everything about his newly gained Devil Slayer magic in a few days. The surreal encounter with Eitur, the Poison Devil, was still fresh on Vallis's mind. Why did the Poison Devil pick Vallis of all people to become a Poison Devil Slayer? Why would Devils willingly teach others magic specifically designed to kill them? Could this magic truly consume Vallis if he did not master it? Vallis had so many questions yet no reliable means to answer them. The only thing at the moment that could grant him solace was practicing his magic as much as possible. If he could understand and control it more, maybe he could find some answers through his own experience.
"Alright, let's hope I do this right," Vallis muttered as he stood before the magically enhanced training dummy. He stumbled upon one of the many magic practice fields scattered throughout the capital. Other mages sparred and trained among themselves while Vallis managed to secure a small section of a field to himself. He inhaled, paused before letting out a loud scream. A torrent of green, poisonous energy spewed out of his mouth and smashed into the magical training dummy. The caustic magic ate away at the dummy's wooden exterior, leaving behind sizzling holes all over its surface. "I'm doing better than before. I don't think there's much power behind it though," Vallis murmured as he scratched his cheek. How could he increase his magic power? He looked around at some of the other mages training. Maybe he could ask one of them for pointers ...
