IWATE TANO
a.k.a. the COLDBURN Is it a blessing or is it a curse? Iwate has struggled with how to view his magic since he first felt the lick of its flames. Iwate is a low-key, seemingly introverted man. He generally likes to keep to himself and stay out of trouble so he is best positioned to do what he pleases with minimal attention. He enjoys silence and staying indoors drinking tea. At the same time, he is drawn to exciting people and environments, especially in the pursuit of his goals. In this regard, Iwate is incredibly effective at ingratiating himself with diverse groups of people and being sociable on assignment or when otherwise necessary. It's rare, but in the off chance he makes friends, he is fiercely loyal. He plays his cards close to his chest, keeping his objectives and aspirations as closely guarded secrets. He finds it easier to pretend to have other motives and objectives so others cannot read him so easily. His truth is that he hates his magic, maybe all magic, and he wants it to be eradicated forever. He's scared of turning into a statue of ice and leaving his family to perish in the same fate. He'll do anything to stop it. Personality Breakdown POSITIVE TRAITS

The Tano clan began as stewards to an ancient fire god's temple long ago when demon and gods still ruled the world. They were devoted to keeping his lands, spreading his good works and even defending him against demonic forces when he saw it fit. For centuries, they were fodderized by demons in the god's sick game of war. As time went on and the demons and their forces became stronger, eventually they sought out the fire god, intent on killing him and taking his lands. Countless Tano men and women gave their lives for the god until the demonic forces reached his temple, surrounding him. In a final act, the god bestowed the humans with his magic before the demons dispatched him to the fiery pits of his temple--the five-hundred year blood-blessing had begun. Iwate was born into this legacy. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him, preyed upon by her magic in her infirmed state. His father was a guild mage--he looked after him for a time when Iwate was young, days he remembers fondly--who ultimately died when Iwate was still young. He was taken in by a distant aunt and her family, all afflicted, living in destitution. Their powers had a tendency to flare up at random times, leading civilization to shun the Tano clan. Growing up in this environment, Iwate grew to hate the fire that his family bore inside of them and aspired to being a savior for his clan. As he came of age, Iwate decided the best way to get rid of his family's magic was by using his family's magic. By mastering his magic, he could integrate into society long enough to figure out something, anything, that could sate the fire. He trained day and night as a young boy and as a teenager, was even somewhat proud of his control. His life changed however, when his aunt's magic erupted. Then an eighteen year-old, he watched as his uncle sacrificed himself to contain his aunt, orphaning their twin daughters and leaving Iwate without a home yet again. He was old enough to make a living at least, so Iwate took in his cousins and enlisted in the Rune Knights. While the role started strictly as a means to make money, he found that the work he was doing seemed to be valuable in gaining leads as to how to seal his magic. Fighting dark guilds who dabbled with shady forms of magic seemed like the best place for him to be. He has found his place on the magical artifacts squad, studying under the captain until he can accomplish his goal. MATOIA metal stick with cloth tied to the end of it. At the very tip is a diamond with the character for '7' inscribed in it. By clicking a button in the body of the staff, it will split into 7 smaller matoi. The weapon is otherwise absolutely ordinary on its own but when used in combination with Iwate's magic, can be a versatile tool in battle.
Aside from this, Iwate carries a standard issue communication lacrima crystal. F R E E Z E R B U R N TYPE: CASTER • RANK: B Freezerburn is the modern name of a divine form of magic given to the mortal Tano clan. Originally, this magic would pull from the infinite divine ethernano residing in a celestial being to fuel a forever-enduring flame. In mortals the fire pulls ethernano, but since the source is limited it eventually kills each mortal who uses it, draining them of ethernano and heat--leaving behind a statue of permafrost. The Tano who have been drained by Freezerburn endure forever as statues of enchanted ice. Since Freezerburn's flame absorbs ambient heat, it burns far hotter than most flames magical or natural, much more akin to plasma. Freezerburn flames have a unique effect on the body--they instantly give severe burns to the area they affect but leave the rest of the body chilled as heat is absorbed. These flames work in reverse thermodynamically, drawing energy from low to high concentrations. The flame can be directed out of the user's body as they please, making it a versatile form of magic both offensively and defensively. Additionally, skilled users can project flames from their entire bodies. DRAWBACKS: The fire burns continually within the body of the wielder, drawing energy until it is called forth. As such, this flame continually saps heat causing the caster to regularly shiver and suffer from mild hypothermic symptoms like shivering and confusion especially after sustaining the flame in battle. These chilling effects are increased based on the length of time the flames are being used. Casting flames from their entire bodies can lead to blackouts as the user recovers from having so much heat drained at once.
Hiwotsukeru (S/O • B-Rank) Flight « Knockback « Elemental Damage (Fire) « Elemental Damage (Ice) Using his matoi, Iwate projects his flames to the cloth end, producing a propulsion reaction. By balancing on top of the matoi, Iwate can achieve flight for a time though he will eventually come down to earth as the flame in the end of the matoi dissipates. While the matoi are in the air, Iwate can alter their flight patterns by altering the direction and power of their flames. Alternatively, Iwate can use Ignition offensively by swinging the matoi by its wooden end and applying the flame at the other end, causing the matoi to swing at immense speeds. The flame of the matoi making impact with something causes a large explosion dealing fire damage to the areas burned and ice damage to areas unaffected by the flames.
Asahi (O • B-Rank) Elemental Damage (Fire) « Elemental Damage (Ice) « AoE (Ranged) Morning Sun is an offensive technique in which Iwate summons his flames to two fingers and draws a circle around himself, leaving behind a trail of flames. From here, Iwate can shoot fireballs from his finger and the ring of fire behind him though he can only direct them forward. As is usual with Freezerburn flames, these fireballs burn what they come into immediate contact with but leave behind a cold sensation in the surrounding area. This spell can be maintained for two posts and requires two posts to cooldown.
Byakuya (O • B-Rank) Elemental Damage (Fire) « Elemental Damage (Ice) « DoT Night Under the Midnight Sun is a powerful spell in which Iwate channels all of his fire to his hand and strikes a person or object transferring his flames inward. Depending on the size and strength of the object, this spell will completely disintegrate the object as it is engulfed in concentrated flames. For enchanted objects and strong mages, the flames sit inside and sap ethernano for about four posts before exploding outward dealing immense fire and ice damage. The technique gets its name from the explosion that results, creating a blinding flash of light that brightens even the night sky.
Yūhi (S/O • B-Rank) Overcharge (Fire) Evening Sun is a technique in which Iwate expels his flames from his entire body. This technique can be used at variable strength, to just emitting an omnidirectional heatwave in a 10-meter radius which causes micro-heatstroke symptoms like lethargy and nausea, to expelling powerful flames which alter his appearance, when used with overcharge. When used in overcharge, Iwate loses himself as he channels the flames but also gains several boons to his strength, speed and agility. His flame seem to burn even hotter and sap even more ambient energy from the environment (50-meters) than usual, even causing those within his range to see their breath and shiver.
